Established Northeast Ohio Business Opens New
Concept
John
Robert's Spa Protégé, will offer the famous John
Robert's Spa experience with their newest talent at
a value driven price.
Beachwood,
OH - John Robert's Spa, an award winning salon &
spa, with five locations in Northeast Ohio, is
opening a brand new concept in Beachwood OH on
Chagrin Blvd (address 27810) this summer. John
Robert's, an upscale full service spa, which offers
haircuts priced up to $110 with seasoned designers,
will be showcasing their extensively trained newest
talent at the Beachwood location with a price point
affordable to the masses. John Robert's Spa has
been recognized as a Top 20 Salon & Spa in the
country numerous times by both Salon Today and
Launchpad Magazines. They have a 7,000 square foot
salon & spa Mayfield Heights, and additional
locations in Solon, Chagrin Falls, Cleveland at The
Cleveland Clinic, and a call center and corporate
offices in Warrensville Heights.
It is no secret that John Robert's has one of the
most intense advanced training programs in the
entire beauty industry and has won many awards
because of it. Before a hairdresser is allowed to
start taking clients at John Robert's, they must
first go complete a demanding apprenticeship
program, which in the past has lasted anywhere from
12-16 months.
Modern Salon Magazine did a study and found the
average salon in the US trains approximately 3 hours
per employee per year. So if a salon has 10
employees, that means they have approximately 30
hours of education. John Robert's employees average
well over 200 training hours per year, just in 2005,
the company exceeded 25,000 hours of education as a
whole.
The salon & spa also does another thing drastically
different than the typical salon. They hire people
directly out of beauty school and put them through
their apprenticeship program versus hiring
experienced designers from other salons who
potentially don't fit the service culture.
The
company is not just adding another location to their
collection, but is introducing their newest concept
called the John Robert's Protégé Spa. "We are
really excited about this concept," says owner John
Robert DiJulius. "The Protégé salon is an advanced
training salon for our hair dressers after they get
out of their apprenticeship program, similar to an
MBA program after college. We are extremely proud of
our training program."
So with all the success and growth of the current
John Robert's Spa models, why introduce a new
concept? Stacy DiJulius, wife of John and the
Artistic Director of the 150 employee company says,
"we have
always been very focused on training, the Protégé
Salons allow us to train our staff the way we have
always wanted. Now upon graduating from
apprenticeship program, the designer gets promoted
to the Protégé salon where they can build experience
and a clientele. And the best part of it, is
clients can now get a John Robert's Experience for
$30!" After the stylists work at the Protégé Salon
and meet certain performance and customer service
standards they can be promoted to one of the main
signature salons, i.e. Mayfield, Solon, or Chagrin
Falls.
Does this mean that the hair dressers working at
the Protégé Salon have lower requirements than do
the current designers working at the existing
salon? "Actually it will be the opposite," says
Stacy. "We are actually reducing the months it
takes for them to get on the floor, but increasing
the amount of time spent training. In the past our
apprentices would train 1-2 days a week and assist
experienced designers the other three days, for at
least a year. Now we are having them train 3-4 days
a week for about 5-6 months. In total, their time
in the apprenticeship program will be cut in half,
however the hours they actually train will
increase. We just created a middle stage before
promoting them to one of the more signature salons
that charges anywhere from $45-$110 for a woman's
haircut experience. This also allows a whole new
market to experience John Robert's at a reduced
price."
John Robert's doesn't plan on stopping there. The
company, which should exceed $5 million in sales
this year, plans on opening up more of these Protégé
Salons. "Our five year plan is to open up more
signature high end salons in areas such as Hudson,
Brecksville, Strongsville, and Rocky River. We also
see opening up John Robert's Protégé Salons in those
areas as well to be a feeder for the signature
salons."
John Robert's will celebrate the opening of their
newest location by giving back to the community.
All money from services done at the protégé salon
from August 1 through August 5th will be donated to
charity. The salon has selected several charities
that they work with to honor with donations, a
separate one each day. (see included release for
details)
Other honors and awards John Robert's has earned
are; two time Pillar Award for community service in
Northeast Ohio, four time Top 99 company to work for
in Northeast Ohio, seven time fastest 100 growing
business in Cleveland, and owner John DiJulius won
the Entrepreneur of the Year.
